sorry this took me so long to answer. i’ve hardly had one free second in the last two days. … so, random facts/secrets (sorry, there’s nothing scandalous in here; you’ll have to be more direct if this isn’t what you want):
- i was born a month premature and weighed a little more than 5 pounds.
- it is a universal law of nature that all cats adore me.
- i was overweight between the ages of about 11 and 15.
- i have been tested in a doctor’s office, and my visual perception of colour is perfect. i could distinguish and categorize 80 separate shades.
- as a smaller child, i didn’t understand the concept of boundaries very well. like, as a 5-year-old playing outside my house, i used to do things like walk into neighbours’ living rooms unannounced, sit down and turn on the television. some adult would come walking into the room and be totally startled to see a kid sitting on their couch. luckily, i outgrew this habit before long.
- i was precocious as a kid, but i only wanted to interact with adults. i didn’t know how to deal with kids, and especially boys. i was a serious child, and i wanted serious conversation, and kids weren’t interested in that. (i also think this is because i was a girl in a boy’s body, and that made me very uncomfortable around other kids.)
- i used to be able to do a parlour trick where i could stand and put all my weight on two empty soda cans. i haven’t tried this in about a decade.
- i’ve studied lots of languages, including french (10 years), swedish (2 years). italian (1 year), german and spanish (both when i was little). and lots of others outside of a classroom.
- i am terrified of bees, even though i’ve only been stung once and that was 27 years ago.
- one time in junior high school, i forgot to turn in an assignment, and i made up some story about being from canada and i couldn’t finish my work because my family had to go up there for an emergency suddenly. minnesota is practically canada, anyway, so it wasn’t that much of a stretch. … my social studies teacher believed me with no problem, but the next week she asked me if i could do a presentation on canada and my heritage for the class, and i couldn’t say no. so i got up in front of the class and talked about being from manitoba and brought in purportedly canadian “family heirlooms.” (we had just been to winnipeg and i just grabbed stuff from that trip.) … and after i was done, one of my friends came up to me and said, “hey, wait, in kindergarten you told me you were from england!”
