If you're intersex or genderless, how do you use pronouns (i.e. him, her, she, he)... I had a friend tell me that they preferred "it", but I'm uncomfortable using it b/c it makes people sound like objects or even animals. What's your take on it?

Well, I think it’s a personal preference sort of thing. For me, as someone who generally feels both female and male, I’m fine with either him or her, and he or she. I’ll answer to either. Personally, I would never want to be an “it.” … But others feel differently, and that also depends where on the gender continuum they might see themselves. Some people use them/they (though to me that indicates a plural), and others use hybrid words or stand-in words such as “ze” and “hir.”
